Cubs' heater: who actually scored in the Aug 23–Sep 1 window

From Aug 23 through Aug 31 the Chicago Cubs went 4-4 and still outscored opponents by 43 runs. The standings look ordinary. The scoreboard does not. AthX Engine (our game-log scoring system) has Chicago at 128 fantasy points for the Aug 23–Sep 1 Engine window, with that +43 run differential on the same dates. The club stamp is the headline. Four bats are the reason.

128 is the team number. It is not the four bats added up.

Team fantasy points and player fantasy points are different boards. Chris Sale's 41-point shutout already showed that on a 1-0 night. Same idea here. 128 is what AthX Engine put on the Cubs as a club. It is not Pete plus Seiya plus Bregman plus Ramirez.

Pete Crow-Armstrong48 FP
Seiya Suzuki48 FP
Alex Bregman38 FP
Pedro Ramirez34 FP

Crow-Armstrong and Suzuki tied at 48. That is the actual heat. Bregman sat 10 behind them. Ramirez sat 14 behind. If you only remember "the Cubs got hot," you are buying a mash-up.

Fantasy points measure the window. Price is what the market will pay. They can move together without being the same number.

The nights that made +43 look easy

Sunday in Seattle was the first warning. Chicago buried the Mariners 19-2. Ramirez hit a grand slam. Crow-Armstrong homered. Suzuki kept reaching. One night later, Kevin Gausman threw seven scoreless in a 7-0 blanking at Chase Field.

Then the record went sideways. Arizona took the next two, 5-4 and 2-0. Cincinnati won 10-8 and 7-5 around a 17-5 Cubs night on Aug 29. Monday at Wrigley, Chicago hit a franchise-record nine home runs and beat Milwaukee 17-3. Bregman hit three of them.

Three games of 17 or more. A 4-4 week. That is how you get +43 run differential without looking like a runaway in the wild-card table. The earlier wild-card write-up was about cushion. This window is about who printed the points once the offense woke up.

One arm, labeled the same way

If you want a pitching contrast, keep it on the same stamp. Clay Holmes has 47 Aug 23–Sep 1 Engine fantasy points and a 0.00 ERA in that window. He threw seven scoreless in the Aug 25 loss at Arizona, then six more zeros in the 17-3. That is one starter's window, not a staff story.

Where to go from here

The live pages are the point. Start with the two 48-FP bats, then the rest of the hot list:

  • Pete Crow-Armstrong
  • Seiya Suzuki
  • Alex Bregman
  • Pedro Ramirez
  • Club view: Chicago Cubs
  • Open AthX Engine on the Cubs names behind the 128 FP / +43 RD window. That is the Aug 23–Sep 1 game-log stamp, not a March projection.

    Soft look

Track Crow-Armstrong, Suzuki, Bregman, and Ramirez on AthX before the window stamp cools. Fantasy points measure the window. Price is a separate market number.
