Yamamoto owned the mound. Merrill owned the bats. Miami almost stole the night.
September 9, 2026 was a 15-game Wednesday, and the loudest pitching line needed seven innings. Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 in a 14-1 win. Jackson Merrill went a triple-and-two-homers short of a cycle and drove in six. The New York Mets and Miami Marlins combined for 29 runs and 35 hits, and New York still left town with a sweep.
Those three facts do not contradict each other. They are Wednesday.
Top team fantasy scores (Wednesday, September 9, 2026)
| Rank | Team | AthX Engine FP | Final | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Los Angeles Dodgers | 30 | 14-1 | Dodgers vs Reds |
| 2 | San Diego Padres | 19 | 9-2 | Padres vs Nationals |
| 3 | New York Mets | 19 | 15-14 | Mets at Marlins |
| 4 | Philadelphia Phillies | 18 | 11-7 | Phillies vs Astros |
| 5 | Baltimore Orioles | 16 | 9-5 | Orioles vs Guardians |
| 6 | Tampa Bay Rays | 15 | 7-2 | Rays at Braves |
| 7 | Detroit Tigers | 15 | 7-2 | Home win over Minnesota |
| 8 | New York Yankees | 14 | 6-1 | Warren's 8 K, Lombard Jr. slam |
| 9 | Milwaukee Brewers | 13 | 8-6 | Three homers, then a ninth-inning scare |
| 10 | Miami Marlins | 12 | 14-15 | 20 hits in a one-run loss |
The Dodgers sit first because 14 runs and 10 strikeouts fill a team table the way a 1-0 shutout does not. Miami sits 10th with 12 team FP and lost. Twenty hits is a lot of production to put on the wrong side of 15-14.
Top pitchers (AthX Engine, September 9, 2026)
| Rank | Player | Team | AthX Engine FP | Line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Yoshinobu Yamamoto | Dodgers | 27 | 7.0 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 10 K, 1 BB |
| 2 | Will Warren | Yankees | 20 | 6.0 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 8 K, 2 BB |
| 3 | Logan Henderson | Brewers | 20 | 5.0 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 2 H, 6 K, 1 BB |
| 4 | Brandon Eisert | Pirates | 13.33 | 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 5 K, 0 BB |
| 5 | Griffin Jax | Rays | 12 | 5.0 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 K, 1 BB |
| 6 | Andre Pallante | Cardinals | 12 | 5.0 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 4 K, 0 BB |
| 7 | Drew Sommers | Tigers | 11.33 | 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB |
| 8 | Brady Basso | Athletics | 11 | 4.0 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 4 K, 2 BB |
| 9 | Ryan Johnson | Angels | 11 | 6.0 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 5 K, 1 BB |
| 10 | Tyler Holton | Tigers | 10 | 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB |
Yamamoto at 27 FP is the card. A 14-1 with 10 strikeouts is a different conversation from everyone else's five or six innings. Warren and Henderson both sit at 20 after one-run starts in wins. Pallante threw five innings of one-run ball and still lost when San Francisco scored six in the eighth. Eisert's 2 1/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts is why a relief line can outrank a starter on this board.
Top hitters (AthX Engine, September 9, 2026)
| Rank | Player | Pos | Team | AthX Engine FP | Line |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jackson Merrill | OF | Padres | 20 | 4-for-5, 2 HR, 1 3B, 6 RBI |
| 2 | Otto Lopez | 2B | Marlins | 12 | 2-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R |
| 3 | Christopher Morel | OF | Mets | 12 | 3-for-4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI |
| 4 | Enrique Hernández | 1B | Dodgers | 11 | 2-for-4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 4 RBI |
| 5 | Mookie Betts | SS | Dodgers | 10 | 3-for-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R |
| 6 | Trea Turner | SS | Phillies | 10 | 2-for-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SB |
| 7 | Zach Neto | SS | Angels | 10 | 2-for-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI |
| 8 | William Contreras | C | Brewers | 10 | 2-for-3, 1 HR (15th), 3 RBI |
| 9 | Joe Mack | C | Marlins | 10 | 3-for-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI |
| 10 | Jackson Chourio | OF | Brewers | 10 | 3-for-5, 1 HR (23rd), 2 RBI |
Merrill's 20 FP is not a close race. A two-homer, six-RBI night that also includes a triple is why AthX Engine scoring cares about extra bases, not only the long ball. Lopez and Morel tied at 12 in the same 15-14 game and still sit behind him. Contreras' 15th homer was also the 100th of his career. Chourio's 23rd is a career high.

What stood out
Yamamoto's 27 FP and Merrill's 20 FP are the two clean boards. One is seven innings in a rout. The other is a near-cycle in 95-degree heat. The Mets-Marlins game is the one that will get rewatched: 8-0, 8-8, 15-9, 15-14.
The pitcher table also has a reminder. Warren struck out eight in a 6-1 win and still sits behind Yamamoto. Henderson allowed one unearned run and watched Milwaukee almost give away an 8-1 lead in the ninth. Pallante's 12 FP came in a loss. Team wins and pitcher boards are related. They are not the same list.
