The lead
May 22, 2026 - Baltimore - Pete Alonso homered and drove in four runs, Jackson Holliday added a go-ahead two-run shot in a three-run fourth, and the Baltimore Orioles handed the Detroit Tigers their seventh straight loss with a 7-4 victory in torrential rain at Camden Yards, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.
Holliday singled for his first hit since reinstatement from the injured list Monday, then homered for his first long ball of 2026—both in the same game that Gunnar Henderson finished 3-for-5 at the start of a season-high 10-game homestand.
How the game turned
Detroit jumped ahead 2-0 in the third on doubles from Gage Workman and Hao-Yu Lee. Holliday's single and Henderson's infield reach set up Alonso's three-run homer to right in the bottom of the third for a 3-2 Baltimore lead.
The Tigers answered with two in the fourth on Zach McKinstry's RBI fielder's choice and Lee's two-out single for a 4-3 edge. Leody Taveras bunted for a hit, Colton Cowser singled, and Taveras scored on Jack Flaherty's balk—the first balk of Flaherty's 200 career appearances—to tie it 4-4.
Holliday then drove a fastball the opposite way for a 6-4 lead. Alonso added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Chris Bassitt (4-3) worked 4⅓ innings; Anthony Nunez fanned two in the ninth for his third save.
Pitching and matchup notes
Flaherty (0-6) allowed six runs—three earned—in 3⅓ innings with seven strikeouts. Bassitt gave up three runs on six hits before the bullpen (Rico Garcia, Yennier Cano, Tyler Wells, Nunez) covered the rest.
AthX Engine graded Baltimore at 13 team FP with Holliday at 10 hitting FP and Alonso at 9.
Bats that changed the board
Fourteen Orioles hits in the rain flipped a game Detroit led twice. Holliday's return—from 0-for-4 with three strikeouts since surgery—was the emotional pivot; Alonso's second homer in as many games supplied the bulk runs.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
Alonso plus a 10 FP Holliday night is how AthX Engine lands 13 team FP without a pitching ace on the card. That leaderboard total is separate from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
Baltimore improved to 22-29; Detroit fell to 20-32 and lost for the 15th time in 17 games. Framber Valdez and Brandon Young were listed for Saturday, per AP.
