Bregman hit three. Castillo allowed one. The Cubs and Yankees sat at the top of a 15-game Wednesday.
Alex Bregman walked twice, then homered in three straight at-bats at Nationals Park. Luis Castillo gave the Reds one single in the first and nothing else for seven innings. Those were the two poles of Wednesday: a designated hitter who would not stay in the yard, and a deadline acquisition who finally looked like the pitcher Chicago traded for.
The Chicago Cubs led the team board at 21 AthX Engine fantasy points after a 12-6 win. The New York Yankees were next at 18, climbing out of a 3-0 hole. Fifteen games went final. The board still came down to a three-homer night and a one-hitter.

Top team fantasy scores (Wednesday, August 12, 2026)
| Rank | Team | AthX Engine team FP | Final | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chicago Cubs | 21 | 12-6 | Cubs vs Nationals |
| 2 | New York Yankees | 18 | 10-5 | Yankees vs Mariners |
| 3 | Miami Marlins | 17 | 8-2 | Marlins vs Pirates |
| 4 | St. Louis Cardinals | 16 | 7-1 | Cardinals vs Phillies |
| 5 | Tampa Bay Rays | 15 | 8-4 | Rays vs Athletics |
| 6 | Chicago White Sox | 13 | 5-0 | White Sox vs Reds |
| 7 | Minnesota Twins | 12 | 7-5 | ESPN recap |
| 7 | Atlanta Braves | 12 | 6-3 | ESPN recap |
| 9 | Cleveland Guardians | 11 | 6-4 | ESPN recap |
| 9 | Los Angeles Angels | 11 | 5-2 | ESPN recap |
Chicago at 21 is the headline, and it is almost entirely Bregman. New York at 18 is the comeback. Miami, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay filled the next tier with wins that were never that close after the fifth.
Top pitchers (AthX Engine, August 12, 2026)
| Rank | Player | Team | AthX Engine pitching FP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Luis Castillo | White Sox | 32 |
| 2 | Adrian Houser | Giants | 22 |
| 3 | Tyler Mahle | Braves | 21 |
| 4 | Eric Lauer | Dodgers | 20.33 |
| 5 | Dustin May | Brewers | 19 |
| 6 | Janson Junk | Marlins | 17 |
| 7 | Kyle Leahy | Cardinals | 15 |
| 8 | José Soriano | Blue Jays | 14 |
| 9 | Cal Quantrill | Rangers | 12 |
| 10 | Landon Knack | Dodgers | 11.66 |
Castillo cleared the field at 32. Seven innings, one hit, ten strikeouts, first win in a White Sox uniform. Houser threw six scoreless at Oracle Park and still took a no-decision in a 2-1 loss, which is why AthX Engine ranks the line, not only the W. May went seven and one earned in an 11-inning loss at San Diego and still landed fifth.
Top hitters (AthX Engine, August 12, 2026)
| Rank | Player | Team | AthX Engine hitting FP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alex Bregman | Cubs | 24 |
| 2 | Trent Grisham | Yankees | 16 |
| 3 | Griffin Conine | Marlins | 13 |
| 4 | Liam Hicks | Rays | 11 |
| 4 | Corbin Carroll | Diamondbacks | 11 |
| 4 | Dansby Swanson | Cubs | 11 |
| 7 | Austin Riley | Braves | 10 |
| 8 | Heriberto Hernández | Marlins | 9 |
| 8 | Willi Castro | Rockies | 9 |
| 8 | Spencer Jones | Yankees | 9 |
Bregman at 24 is not a crowded board. He walked twice, then hit three homers and drove in seven. Grisham's 16 came from a leadoff night that tied, took the lead, and ended a rally. Conine reached five times and homered in an 8-2 win. Carroll's 11 came in a Diamondbacks loss, which is the reminder that a good hitter line can still sit on the wrong side of the team column.
Six featured games from Wednesday
What stood out
Wednesday split into two kinds of nights. Bregman and Grisham wrote the hitting board with extra-base damage that also won the game. Castillo wrote the pitching board by himself. The next group of arms (Houser, Mahle, Lauer, May) all threw six or seven useful innings, and only some of them got a decision.
The team board followed the run column more than the pitching gems. Chicago at 21 and New York at 18 sat clear of everyone. The White Sox shut out Cincinnati and still landed sixth, because a 5-0 win does not score like a 12-6 win even when the starter is the best pitcher on the planet for one night.
What now?
Wednesday's AthX Engine scores are a record of that slate. Use them to compare nights, then check roles and news before you treat any board as more than production.
