Defensive back on AthX Engine is a ballhawk board that still pays for being around the football.
Interceptions are worth 30 points. Pass breakups pay 5. Tackles still count, but not at linebacker rates. Corners and safeties both live here. If you only draft "shutdown corners who never get thrown at," you will hate this card. If you like safeties who roam and corners who play the ball, you will not.

Safeties own the top
Jessie Bates and Xavier McKinney lead because free safety production (picks, range, occasional run support) maps cleanly to this card. Antoine Winfield Jr. is the hybrid who still finishes plays near the line. Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch give Detroit two top-seven DBs. That is a defensive identity, not a coincidence.
Corners who play the ball
Kamari Lassiter and Derek Stingley Jr. keep Houston all over this board. Marlon Humphrey and Byron Murphy are the veteran corner ranks that assume targets still come their way. Pure "invisible coverage" corners without PBUs or INTs will always under-rank here. That is a feature of the scoring, not a bug in the list.
Derwin James and Kyle Hamilton sit 14th and 15th as big safeties who can blitz and cover. Their fantasy path is splashier than a middle-of-the-field box safety who only tackles.
What camp can change
Nickel packages and injury replacements move DB ranks week to week once the season starts. Before IPO week, watch who is listed as the FS1 and who is the boundary CB1. A player who loses the slot job can fall out of this top 30 without a talent collapse.
Projected FP is not share price. September IPOs are still the trading gate.
