Twelve strikeouts, one baseball that left the yard

July 24, 2026 – Philadelphia – Citizens Bank Park got a pitchers’ night, and Cam Schlittler owned almost all of it.

He worked 7 1/3 scoreless innings, struck out 12, walked nobody, and left with three hits on the board. Paul Goldschmidt led off the fourth with a solo shot. That was the whole Yankees offense. It was also enough. The New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0, per the Associated Press.

Luzardo nearly matched him

Jesús Luzardo (9-5) threw seven strong innings of his own: three hits, nine strikeouts, one run. The run was Goldschmidt’s 16th homer of the year. Everything else was noise management until the eighth, when Philadelphia loaded the bases after Schlittler hit Gabriel Rincones Jr. and left.

Brent Headrick got Trea Turner to line out to Cody Bellinger and Kyle Schwarber to bounce out. David Bednar finished it for save No. 19, including a third strikeout of Bryce Harper on the night.
