August 7, 2026 - Boston - Fourteen strikeouts. Thirteen runs. Nine straight wins. Fenway has stopped pretending this run is temporary.
Payton Tolle fanned a career-high 14 over six innings, Wilyer Abreu drove in three, and the Boston Red Sox buried the Athletics 13-1 for their ninth consecutive victory.
Perfect through four, loud all night
Tolle (7-6) was perfect through four innings and the first Red Sox pitcher to strike out 14 since Chris Sale on May 8, 2019. He allowed one run on two hits. Tyler Soderstrom's leadoff homer in the fifth ended the no-hit bid and was about the only noise Oakland made.
The offense did not wait. Jarren Duran's two-run homer over the Green Monster opened a five-run second. Jake Rogers doubled home a run. Abreu ripped a two-run double. By the time the fourth was over, Andruw Monasterio, Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida had stacked three more, and the scoreboard looked like a different sport.
Abreu's 380-foot double to right would have been a home run in every park except Fenway, per Statcast. He still got the RBIs. Yoshida and Caleb Durbin added insurance later as Boston reached double digits for a second straight game.
A historic kind of hot
Boston is just the seventh team since 1920 to win 27 or more in a 30-game span, and the only one to start that stretch under .500. That is not a nice midseason run. That is a season flipping direction in public.
Jack Perkins (2-8) lasted three innings and allowed five runs on five hits with three walks. The Athletics have now lost nine straight. Road trips to Fenway against a club this locked in are how losing streaks get their longest chapters.
AthX Engine angle
Tolle's night was worth 30 AthX Engine pitching fantasy points, the top mark on the full slate. Boston finished with 28 team fantasy points, also first by a wide margin. Abreu and Rogers both landed near the top of the hitting board. When a starter punches out 14 and the lineup scores 13, the team board does not need interpretation.

What it means
Nine in a row puts Boston right in the AL East thick of it with Tampa Bay and the Yankees. The Athletics leave town with a skid that has stopped looking temporary. Tolle just gave the rotation another argument that this surge has more than one source.
