Phillies 5, Orioles 0: Sanchez Strikes Out 11 in Shutout Win

Eleven strikeouts. Two hits. Zero runs.

August 1, 2026 – Baltimore – Cristopher Sánchez walked five Orioles and still never let them score. That is not the usual recipe for a shutout. On Saturday it was enough.

Sánchez struck out 11 over six innings, twice ending bases-loaded innings by retiring Leody Taveras, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 to snap a four-game losing streak.

Sanchez fixed July with two hits allowed

Sánchez entered after yielding 35 hits in 21 1/3 innings in July. Saturday he allowed two. The walks never became runs because the strikeouts and soft contact kept arriving when Camden Yards got loud. He improved to 14-4 and handed a 1-0 lead to a bullpen that had blown Friday's game in the seventh.

Bryan De La Cruz's RBI single in the fifth was the only run Philadelphia needed. The rest came in an eighth inning that dragged long enough for the Orioles infield to forget how many outs there were.

Four runs in the eighth after the walks started

Grant Wolfram walked Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper with one out. Andrew Kittredge threw a wild pitch. Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh ripped consecutive RBI singles. Justin Crawford later cleared two more with a bases-loaded single. Philadelphia led 5-0 before the top of the eighth finally ended on a strikeout.

Shane Baz had lasted 6 1/3 innings with one run before a 15-pitch battle with Bryson Stott ended in an infield single and his exit. The Orioles' Hall of Fame ceremony for Chris Davis, Storm Davis, and Jim Russo was the loudest home moment of the night. The rest belonged to Sánchez and a Phillies offense that finally added on.

Sánchez walked five and still never blinked. That is how skids end on the road.
