AL 4, NL 0: Bellinger Wins MVP as American League Dominates 2026 All-Star Game

Three runs before the crowd settled in

July 14, 2026 - Philadelphia - The 96th MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park never really turned into a game. It was over in the first.

Cristopher Sánchez took the ball in his home park, and the American League loaded the bases with two outs. Cody Bellinger ripped a 101.1 mph single to center—two runs in, Bobby Witt Jr. to third. Ben Rice followed with another single through the middle. 3-0 before Philadelphia could exhale.

The American League kept that cushion all night and won 4-0, per MLB.com and ESPN.

Bellinger took All-Star MVP—the fourth Yankee to win it, after Giancarlo Stanton (2022), Mariano Rivera (2013), and Derek Jeter (2000). Miguel Vargas supplied the only home run, a 433-foot solo shot in the eighth. The AL's all-time Midsummer Classic lead is now 49-45-2.

If you were in the building, the sequence hurt twice: Schwarber had lost the Derby the night before, and now the Phillies' ace gave up three before the NL ever got comfortable.

Cease's first, and a night of strikeouts

Dylan Cease opened for the AL and struck out three of four—Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, CJ Abrams—working around a two-out walk to Freddie Freeman. First three-K first inning in an All-Star Game since Brad Penny in 2006.

The National League didn't get a hit until Soto singled off Joe Ryan to open the fourth. He stayed at first.

Parker Messick and Michael Wacha kept the line moving. Manager Brad Schneider kept sending strike-throwers. The AL finished with 15 strikeouts and held the NL to three hits.

Sánchez took the loss (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER). The NL never found the crooked inning to answer.

Vargas in the eighth, and a bat-for-ball trade

Junior Caminero left injured in the third. Vargas came in as a pinch-runner and stayed in the story—crushing a solo homer into the second deck off Justin Wrobleski in the eighth for the final 4-0 margin.

Afterward, Vargas traded a signed bat and All-Star ball with the young fan who caught the souvenir. Small moment on a night that didn't ask for much drama after the first.

Key first-inning sequence (AL):

  • Bellinger singled to center, Alvarez and Langeliers scored, Witt Jr. to third
  • Rice singled to center, Witt Jr. scored
  • Names AthX Engine was already tracking

All-Star exhibitions don't hit the regular AthX Engine daily leaderboards, but the box score was full of first-half fixtures:

  • Bellinger was AthX Engine's May Hitter of the Month before Tuesday's MVP turn.
  • Cease authored a 35 pitching FP shutout for Toronto on July 8.
  • Vargas paced Chicago's pre-break surge and closed the night with the only homer.
  • Sánchez entered as the hometown Cy Young storyline from our All-Star preview—and absorbed Philadelphia's quiet first inning.
  • Fantasy scoring here is information, not a buy order, and separate from dynamic pricing.

    Philadelphia's All-Star Week, in order

    1. Home Run Derby — Jordan Walker over Schwarber, 12-11 2. All-Star Game — AL 4, NL 0; Bellinger MVP 3. Second-half baseball resumes with markets still measuring production over Midsummer Classic headlines

    When the regular season returns

Every All-Star share is still priced on availability, second-half pace, and trader demand—not one exhibition in Philadelphia. Worth watching: whether Cease's strikeout night foreshadows more Toronto shutout ceilings, whether Vargas' blast carries into a sustained White Sox second half, and whether Sánchez resets after a rare Citizens Bank Park rough inning.
