Guardians 7, Rockies 2: DeLauter's Two Triples Finish a Denver Sweep

Two triples before the Rockies found the board

August 23, 2026 - Denver - Chase DeLauter tripled Steven Kwan home in the first. Jo Adell singled DeLauter in. Angel Martínez added another run-scoring single. Three runs before Colorado recorded an out it could feel good about.

DeLauter finished with three hits, two triples, and two RBI. The Cleveland Guardians beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 and swept the three-game set at Coors Field.

Cleveland won its fourth straight and sixth in eight. The Guardians stayed tied with Texas for the AL's third wild-card spot. Colorado dropped a sixth straight, matching its longest skid of the season, and stretched its home losing streak to nine.

Five runs before the third, then a quiet finish

DeLauter's first triple scored Kwan. Adell singled him home. Martínez singled Nathaniel Lowe in and was thrown out stretching. 3-0.

The second kept coming. DeLauter singled Brayan Rocchio home. Adell doubled Kwan in. 5-0. Colorado finally answered with a two-run second on a B. Sullivan double and a Ritter groundout. 5-2. That was the Rockies' night.

Lowe singled DeLauter home in the fourth. Rocchio's sacrifice fly in the eighth made it 7-2. Adell, Kwan, Martínez, and Austin Hedges each finished with two hits. Twelve Cleveland hits. Seven Colorado hits. Sweep complete.

Griffin's first look at the Rockies after the trade

Foster Griffin (15-4) worked five innings, five hits, two earned, four strikeouts, three walks. It was his fourth start since Cleveland acquired him on Aug. 3, and his first against Colorado. He gave the Guardians the length they needed after the early five-run cushion.

Tomoyuki Sugano (12-7) lasted three innings, nine hits, five earned. It tied for his shortest outing of the year after 22 straight starts of at least five innings. Coors did not invent that line. Cleveland's first two frames did.
