Giants 5, Reds 0: Devers' Three-Run Shot Ends a Skid

Four straight hits to open, then Devers ended the argument

August 24, 2026 - San Francisco - The San Francisco Giants opened with four straight hits off Chase Burns. By the time Rafael Devers cleared the right-center fence in the second, the night already had its shape.

Final: Giants 5, Cincinnati Reds 0. San Francisco snapped a four-game losing streak and won for just the second time in eight games. Cincinnati was shut out for the 14th time this season, tied for the most in the majors.

There was no leftover tension from April's benches-clearing series in Cincinnati. Just early contact, a three-run swing, and zeroes the rest of the way.

A cool Oracle night that never needed a late rally

Drew Gilbert doubled in each of his first two at-bats. Jung Hoo Lee singled home a run in the first. Turner Hill doubled Devers home before Lee was thrown out at the plate. 2-0.

In the second, Christian Koss and Gilbert reached, and Devers drove a 427-foot three-run shot to right-center. 5-0. Burns (14-3) lasted 3 2/3, nine hits, five earned runs, five strikeouts, one walk. Two of his three losses have come in his last three outings.

Lee served as DH after a late flight home from Boston. The Giants had just finished a 1-5 road trip. Monday was the reset they needed at home before the mist settled over the outfield in the middle innings.

Foley inherited a shutout and kept it

Carson Whisenhunt left in the third with pain in his pitching elbow and will have an MRI. Jason Foley (1-1) worked 1 1/3 scoreless with three strikeouts for the win. The rest of the bullpen finished Cincinnati's 14th blanking of the year.

San Francisco also shuffled the roster around the win. Bryce Eldridge went on the bereavement list. Willy Adames hit the 10-day injured list with a sprained left elbow. Victor Bericoto remains on the IL with a bone bruise in his right knee. The lineup still found five runs before the fourth inning.

What's next

Brady Singer faces Adrian Houser on Tuesday. One 5-0 does not fix a 1-5 road trip by itself. It does give Oracle a clean scoreboard and Devers a page that traders will reopen after a quiet stretch.
