The lead
May 23, 2026 - San Francisco - The San Francisco Giants ended a four-game skid with a 10-3 win over the Chicago White Sox at Oracle Park, as Harrison Bader hit a grand slam for the second time in six days, Casey Schmitt homered and drove in three runs, and Willy Adames also went deep, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.
San Francisco had totaled just 12 runs over its previous four games before pairing a three-run fourth with a six-run fifth. Luis Arraez, Matt Chapman, and Daniel Susac each had two hits in a lineup that finished with 14 hits and zero errors.
How the game turned
The game stayed scoreless until the fourth, when Arraez tripled and scored on Schmitt's sacrifice fly. Rafael Devers and Chapman followed with consecutive hits before Susac lashed a two-run single to left for a 3-0 Giants lead.
Chicago tied it with three runs in the top of the fifth, capped by Miguel Vargas's RBI double. San Francisco answered immediately: Schmitt's two-run homer made it 5-3, and five batters later Bader crushed a 3-1 fastball from Erick Fedde (0-5) for his third career slam and a 9-3 cushion. Adames added a solo shot later to complete the power display.
Pitching and matchup notes
Adrian Houser allowed three runs and seven hits in 4⅔ innings with five strikeouts. Matt Gage (4-1) struck out all four batters he faced to earn the win in the middle of a four-man Giants bullpen day.
Fedde was tagged for eight runs and 10 hits in 3⅓ innings—the kind of line that drags down Chicago's team fantasy even when the offense briefly rallied. AthX Engine graded San Francisco at 20 team FP, third on the 14-game Saturday slate.
Bats that changed the board
Bader's slam was the biggest blow, but Schmitt's three-RBI night—including the fifth-inning homer that flipped momentum back to the Giants—set the table. Arraez's triple-and-hit day kept traffic moving at the top; Vargas and Tristan Peters had two hits apiece for the White Sox in a losing cause.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
Multi-homer games from three Giants plus a 20 team FP total illustrate how AthX Engine rewards crooked innings without requiring a single 15 FP bat. That daily score is not the same as share-price movement under dynamic pricing.
What comes next
The series finale Sunday sends Robbie Ray (3-6, 4.28 ERA) against Noah Schultz (2-3, 4.93 ERA), per AP probables.
