Six scoreless, two hits, and a steamy sweep
August 23, 2026 - Los Angeles - Blake Snell struck out six over six innings on a Sunday hot enough that fans used programs as fans. Pittsburgh managed two hits against him. None of them became a run.
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0, completed a three-game sweep, and won a sixth straight. It was Los Angeles's 80th win of the season. The bullpen finished the shutout after Snell left.
Ohtani scored first. The middle innings added three more.
Shohei Ohtani scored in the first when Mookie Betts grounded into a double play with Freddie Freeman on base. 1-0. Ugly runs still count in August.
The fourth did the cleaner work. Tommy Edman scored on a Justin Thomas single to right. Kyle Tucker scored on a Hunter Feduccia single. 3-0. Max Muncy grounded Freeman home in the fifth. 4-0.
Six hits. Four runs. Enough for a starter who was already refusing to give anything back.
Snell, then the door
Snell (2-1) went six innings, two hits, zero earned runs, six strikeouts, three walks. Lake Bachar (1-3) took the loss after two innings and one earned run. The Dodgers never needed a late rally. They needed Snell to keep the Pirates off the board long enough for four runs to feel like ten.
Pittsburgh finished with two hits as a club. That is a shutout that does not need drama to land. Yamamoto, then Skubal, then Snell across the series left the Pirates looking for contact that never arrived in volume.
