August 18, 2026 - Milwaukee - Jake Bauers doubled with two outs in the first, William Contreras singled, and Cal Raleigh dropped the throw at the plate. Bauers scored. 1-0. That was the only run for a while. Then the Milwaukee Brewers scored 21 more and the Seattle Mariners never scored at all.
Final: 22-0. Twenty-two hits. Four Seattle errors. Four Milwaukee homers. The best record in baseball matched the modern-era record for the biggest shutout, a number last seen when Cleveland blanked the Yankees 22-0 in 2004 and when Pittsburgh did it to the Cubs in 1975.
Kyle Harrison (10-3) threw five innings, two hits, eight strikeouts, zero runs. Gary Sánchez, the catcher, pitched a scoreless ninth while 36,870 stood and cheered. Leo Rivas, a Mariners infielder, pitched the eighth and allowed nine runs. That is the shape of a 22-0.
Bauers starts it. Yelich opens the flood.
Bryce Miller (4-7) lasted 4 2/3, seven hits, six runs, five earned. The first was the hustle run. The fifth was the inning that ended the night as a baseball game.
David Hamilton scored on Jackson Chourio's single. Contreras hit a sacrifice fly, Brice Turang scoring. Christian Yelich then hit a three-run homer to right-center, his ninth, Chourio and Bauers aboard. 6-0. Milwaukee entered the night with the fewest homers in the majors. Yelich did not care.
The sixth was another five-spot. Hamilton hit a three-run homer to center, his fourth, Garrett Mitchell and Joey Ortiz scoring. 9-0. Bauers hit a two-run shot to right-center, his 22nd, Turang on. 11-0. Josh Simpson faced 0.2 innings, five runs, two homers. That is how a 6-0 game becomes 11-0 before you finish a beer.
Nine in the eighth, a position player, a record
Hamilton singled Luis Lara home in the seventh. Andrew Vaughn reached on a fielder's choice, Ortiz scoring, and a missed catch at first kept the inning messy. 13-0.
Then Rivas came in to pitch. Thirteen Brewers batted. Ten reached. Nine scored. Lara hit his first career homer, a three-run shot to left, Contreras and Yelich on. 16-0. Vaughn singled Mitchell home. Jonathan Ornelas singled Ortiz home. Contreras walked Lockridge in. Yelich hit a sacrifice fly, Vaughn scoring, Ornelas scoring on Julio Rodríguez's throw. Lara singled Contreras home. 22-0.
Milwaukee matched a franchise record for runs, tying the 22 they scored at Toronto on Aug. 28, 1992. The 22 hits were a season high. The 22-run margin is the largest in club history. The shutout margin matches the modern record. Seattle finished with five hits and four errors. Nick Davila threw 1 2/3 of something resembling baseball in between Simpson and Rivas. It did not matter.
Line: Brewers 22 runs on 22 hits; Mariners 0 runs on 5 hits, 4 errors; Harrison 5 IP, 0 R, 8 K.
Sánchez got the ninth. Two hits. Zero runs. The crowd wanted the catcher on the mound after the infielder had already been there. Milwaukee obliged. Shane Drohan and Grant Anderson had already thrown three scoreless between Harrison and the novelty act.
A first-place night that will show up in the almanac
Milwaukee is 78-48. Seattle is 59-67. Logan Gilbert starts Wednesday. Dustin May goes for the Brewers. Nobody is treating a 22-0 as a series preview. It is a box score you send to people who did not watch.
Lara finished 3-for-6 with four RBI and the first homer. Hamilton went 3-for-5, four RBI, two steals, the three-run shot. Yelich drove in four. Bauers had the first run, the 22nd homer, three runs scored. Mitchell had four hits. Contreras drove in two and scored two. The club with the fewest homers in baseball hit four in a shutout that tied a 50-year record.
I would not tell you the Brewers are now a power team. I would tell you this: when the lineup that wins with contact also hits three three-run homers in the same night, 22-0 is what it looks like. Harrison did not need to throw nine. He needed five zeros. Milwaukee supplied the rest, then used a catcher to finish the zeroes.
AthX Engine angle
Milwaukee led Tuesday's slate with 47 AthX Engine team fantasy points, more than double anyone else. Hamilton scored 16 hitting fantasy points. Lara scored 12. Bauers scored 11. Yelich scored 10. Harrison added 21 pitching fantasy points. AthX Engine (our projection and scoring system) graded a 22-0 the way a daily board should: like a different sport from the rest of the card.
