Braves 4, Mets 0: Pérez's Scoreless Streak Hits 18 Innings

August 11, 2026 - Atlanta - Twenty-four hours after Brett Baty's grand slam sent the Mets home with an 8-5 win, Atlanta answered with three hits and a shutout.

Martín Pérez threw six more scoreless innings. Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson homered. The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 4-0, and Pérez stretched his scoreless streak to 18 innings.

Three hits, enough when the starter will not bend

Atlanta had three hits all night. The Braves did not need a dozen. They needed Pérez to keep doing what he has done since Francisco Lindor's two-run homer in New York on July 27, the last run he has allowed.

Nolan McLean pitched well for the Mets. Six innings, one hit, one earned run, three strikeouts, two walks. The only real mistake was an 0-2 slider to Albies in the fifth. Albies drove it 386 feet to right for a 1-0 lead.

Olson added his 35th homer in the eighth, a two-run shot with Drake Baldwin aboard after Mauricio Dubón's sacrifice fly made it 2-0 in the seventh. Three hits, four runs, zero for New York. That is how you flip a series opener when your ace is dealing.

McLean deserved better, and the Mets got nothing

New York finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Four hits total. Zero runs for the first time since the Mets' road trip started heating up. McLean's line deserved a better outcome than an 8-8 record, but Atlanta's bullpen closed it without drama: Didier Fuentes, Dylan Lee, Raisel Iglesias. Four hits allowed. No runs.

The Mets are 53-68. They had won six of seven before Monday. Tuesday was the kind of night that reminds you how thin the margin is when your offense goes quiet against a lefty who has not given up a run in three starts.

Pérez and the race behind Rasmussen and Alcantara

Pérez (8-6) has a 2.96 ERA and has not allowed a run in 18 innings. Only Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen and Miami's Sandy Alcantara have longer active scoreless stretches among starters, both at 20 innings. Atlanta is 72-48 and still first in the NL East. The Mets are 7-4 against them this year and just split the first two games of this series by opposite extremes: a five-run first on Monday, a shutout on Tuesday.

I am not crowning the Braves because they held a last-place club to four hits. I am interested in whether Pérez's streak survives a third start, and whether Atlanta's offense can keep winning these low-hit nights when the rotation gives them.

AthX Engine angle

Atlanta finished with 11 AthX Engine team fantasy points. Pérez led the arms at 17 pitching fantasy points. Olson's two-run homer was worth 9 hitting fantasy points. New York landed at minus-5 team fantasy points, which is what a shutout looks like even when your starter allows one hit through six.
