One swing in the first. Nine innings after that.
August 27, 2026 – Atlanta – Drake Baldwin homered in the first. Chris Sale did not allow a run.
Nine innings. Five hits. Zero walks. Eleven strikeouts. The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 at Truist Park.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw 6 1/3 innings, four hits, one run, one walk, eight strikeouts. He deserved a better night. Baldwin's 22nd homer was the only run either club scored.
Sale never needed a second run
The first inning was the whole offense. Baldwin went deep to right. Sale retired the Dodgers in order often enough that the 1-0 lead never felt borrowed.
Yamamoto kept Los Angeles close. Jack Dreyer and Edgardo Henriquez finished the seventh and eighth without allowing a run. Sale still went back out for the ninth. He did not hand it to a closer. He finished the shutout.
Five hits against Sale is not a no-hitter story. Zero walks and 11 strikeouts is a complete-game story. Atlanta scored one and won. That is the cleanest 1-0 you get when your starter refuses to leave.
Los Angeles had chances to tie it and did not. A 1-0 road loss behind six-plus from Yamamoto is still a loss. Sale's line is the one that sits on top of Thursday's pitcher board by a mile.
