The lead
May 28, 2026 - Arlington - Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes homered in the first inning, Spencer Arrighetti allowed one run in six innings, and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 5-1 at Globe Life Field to take three of four in the Silver Boot series, per the Associated Press recap on ESPN.
Arrighetti (7-1) has won seven of eight starts with a 1.34 ERA—one of just seven Astros starters in franchise history with an ERA that low through eight outings, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic, cited by ClutchPoints.
How the game turned
Peña led off with a 424-foot homer off Nathan Eovaldi (5-6). After a walk to Yordan Alvarez, Paredes ended an 0-for-10 skid with a two-run shot to left for 3-0. Josh Jung answered with a solo homer in the second—the only run Arrighetti allowed.
Houston added two more in the third on Taylor Trammell's RBI double and Cam Smith's single that scored a run on a throwing error. Eovaldi went seven innings but was charged with five runs on four hits.
Pitching and matchup notes
Arrighetti gave up three hits, walked one, and struck out three while plunking two batters. Bryan Abreu worked a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts for the save.
The three first-inning runs were more than Houston had scored off Eovaldi in his previous four starts against them combined (two runs in 27⅓ innings), per Yahoo Sports.
AthX Engine graded Houston at 12 team FP with Arrighetti at 17 pitching FP and Peña and Paredes each at 7 hitting FP.
Bats that changed the board
Peña's homer was his second of the season; Paredes' blast was his sixth. Jung's solo shot gave Texas its only run. Alvarez went 0-for-3 after homering five times in the first three games of the series.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
Early homers plus 17 pitching FP from a breakout starter is how AthX Engine stacks value on the road—Houston has won nine of its last 13 and allowed just 13 runs in those nine victories. Daily scoring remains separate from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
The Astros return home to host Milwaukee; Texas stays at Globe Life Field, per AP probables from the series.
