Astros 11, Rangers 2: Diaz, Paredes, Walker Power First-Place Win

Eighteen hits and a half-game of separation

July 31, 2026 – Houston – First place in the American League West did not arrive with a one-run walk-off. It arrived with 18 hits and a night Texas could not stop.

Yainer Diaz tied a career high with four hits and a home run. Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker went back-to-back. The Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 11-2 and moved a half-game ahead of their rivals after a ninth win in 10 games.

Eovaldi never found the stop button

Nathan Eovaldi allowed 10 hits and six runs in five innings. LaMonte Wade Jr. doubled home the first run in the second. Yordan Alvarez singled home two more after a hit batter loaded the bases. Jeremy Peña extended a 12-game hit streak with an RBI single in the fourth. Paredes and Walker opened the fifth with consecutive homers for a 6-0 lead.

That is not a small-sample blip. That is a lineup rolling through a division rival on a nine-of-10 heater.

Joc Pederson and Corey Seager gave Texas life in the sixth. Pederson homered. Seager doubled as part of a two-hit night in his return from 23 games out with lower-back inflammation. Evan Carter added an RBI single. The deficit only shrank to 6-2 before Houston answered with four two-out runs in the seventh, started by Diaz's solo shot.

Brown did enough. The bats did the rest.

Hunter Brown earned the win with 5 2/3 innings and two runs on six hits. He did not need a gem. He needed outs while Houston's middle of the order kept finding grass and seats.

Peña finished with three RBIs. Alvarez drove in two. The Astros tied a season high with 18 hits. Division races in August still care about pitching, but nights like this reset the standings math in a hurry.
