Yankees 4, Rangers 2: Judge, Rice and Fried Lead Road Win

The lead

April 27, 2026 - Arlington - The New York Yankees kept rolling with a 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers, getting back-to-back homers from Ben Rice and Aaron Judge, another homer from Jazz Chisholm Jr., and six scoreless innings from Max Fried.

The final score was close, but the Yankees controlled the game's best moments. They hit three homers off Jack Leiter, got another strong start from Fried, and survived a ninth-inning push when David Bednar closed it out for his eighth save in nine chances.

Judge was the public headline. He matched the big league lead with his 11th homer, doubled twice, and reached safely in every plate appearance. Rice stayed hot with his 10th homer, his sixth in 11 games, and Chisholm added a first-pitch blast in the fourth.

How the game turned

Leiter opened well, retiring five of the first six Yankees he faced. The second time through the order was different. With two outs in the third, Trent Grisham reached on an infield single. Rice then hit a two-run homer, and Judge followed with a 414-foot shot to left.

That back-to-back sequence made it 3-0 and gave Fried room to attack. The Yankees added another run in the fourth when Chisholm led off with a solo homer, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Texas did not get on the board against Fried. The Rangers' late runs came after he left, including an unearned run in the ninth that made the save situation tense. But Bednar got Ezequiel Duran to ground into a forceout with two on, ending the game.

Pitching and matchup notes

Fried led the confirmed AthX Engine pitching board, finishing with 21 pitching fantasy points. Public box scores were even louder: six scoreless innings, four singles allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts.

ESPN noted Fried has allowed no runs in four of seven starts and has gone at least six innings in each of those scoreless outings. He also added another pickoff, continuing a run of Yankees pickoffs that has become a real tactical note.

Leiter took the loss after allowing three homers in six innings. Outside of the long balls, he gave Texas enough length to stay in the game, but the Yankees' damage was too concentrated to overcome.

Bats that changed the board

Judge's night was complete. The homer got the attention, but the two doubles mattered too. He was not just a one-swing contributor; he was the constant pressure point in the middle of the lineup.

Rice's homer may have been just as important because it came with two outs and a runner aboard. Chisholm's blast gave the Yankees a fourth run before Texas could build any momentum. For the Rangers, Joc Pederson homered, but Texas never stacked enough traffic against Fried to make one swing matter.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

The Yankees finished tied with the Dodgers and Cardinals at 9 AthX Engine team FP, but Fried led the pitching board and Judge ranked second among hitters with 11 AthX Engine hitting FP. Rice and Chisholm also showed up as useful supporting bats.

This is the kind of Yankees game AthX Engine tends to like: ace innings, star power, and concentrated home-run damage. It was not the biggest team score of the slate because New York scored only four, but the individual signals were strong.

What comes next

The Yankees have won 10 of 12, and this road win continued their AL-best pace. Texas needs more early offense, especially against left-handed starters, because falling behind a team with New York's bullpen options leaves very little room.

For AthX traders, Fried is the clean pitcher takeaway, Judge is the premium hitter signal, and Rice remains worth watching because the power stretch is no longer just a one-week blip.
