The lead
June 17, 2026 - New York - Cody Bellinger hit an early homer and finished a triple shy of the cycle, Paul Goldschmidt homered for the third time in four games, and the New York Yankees used a five-run fifth inning to beat the Chicago White Sox 10-5, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.
New York won its fourth straight and moved 3½ games ahead of Tampa Bay in the AL East.
How the game turned
Bellinger hit a two-run homer in the first off Anthony Kay (6-2), doubled in the third, and started a five-run fifth with a single. Goldschmidt capped the rally with a three-run drive into the right-field seats off reliever Tyler Davis.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. became the fifth Yankee with double-digit homers this year with a seventh-inning shot for a 10-3 lead. Colson Montgomery answered with a three-run homer in the third and added another in the eighth for his first career multihomer game.
Pitching and matchup notes
Carlos Rodón (3-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings with seven strikeouts against his former team. Kay gave up four runs and six hits in four innings.
The Yankees improved to 9-5 since losing Aaron Judge indefinitely to a fractured right rib. Chicago lost its ninth straight game in the Bronx.
Bats that changed the board
Bellinger's 13 FP and Goldschmidt's three-run homer paced the offense. AthX Engine graded New York at 23 team FP, sharing second place on the daily board with the Mets.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
AthX Engine rewards crooked-number innings when the lineup stacks extra-base hits behind a quality start. Bellinger's near-cycle and Rodón's strikeout total register on separate daily boards from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
