Wild 5, Kraken 1: Kaprizov in 26 Seconds, Coleman Twice

October 24, 2026 - Seattle - Twenty-six seconds in, Kirill Kaprizov went through Vince Dunn on the left side, cut across, and chipped a backhand over Joey Daccord. Climate Pledge Arena had 1-0 before anyone had found a seat they liked. Dunn told NHL.com it was a very untraditional forecheck, and he needed to be the safety.

The Minnesota Wild beat the Seattle Kraken 5-1. Minnesota is 7-3-2 after two losses (0-1-1) to open a five-game trip. Seattle is 7-4-1 after two wins and points in six of seven (5-1-1). Shots were 36-24 Minnesota. Attendance was 17,151, matching ESPN. Matt Kiersted and Dunn are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.

Blake Coleman scored twice. Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek each had a goal and an assist. Olli Maatta scored. Jesper Wallstedt stopped 23 of 24. The Associated Press recap listed 22 saves. The NHL box is 23 on 24 shots. That is the line we scored. Berkly Catton scored. Daccord stopped 31 of 35. The empty-netter did not go on him.

Minnesota coach John Hynes told NHL.com they wanted to play determined, play disciplined, and have good details. I thought we did that throughout the lineup, so it was nice to get back in the win column here for us.

Catton ties it, then Coleman leaves the box

Catton tied it at 10:13, one second after a Seattle power play ended. Brandon Montour from the blue line to Kaapo Kakko down low, across to Catton. The wrist shot hit Wallstedt's shoulder, then the post, then the net. Kakko told NHL.com they talk about that look with Monty, and he knew Berkly was coming down. The Associated Press recap called it a power-play goal. The NHL landing tags it even, situation 1551 after the penalty expired. We scored it as even strength.

Coleman had flattened Daccord at the first-period horn and taken a goaltender-interference minor, the AP recap said. Seattle did not score on the full two minutes to start the second. Eleven seconds after Coleman left the box, Kiersted hit him with a stretch pass on a bad Seattle change. Coleman snapped it off the right post and in at 2:11. 2-1. "Heads-up play by 'Kiers,'" Coleman told NHL.com. "It's nice to get a bounce there."

Maatta scored from the point through traffic at 11:33, glove side on Daccord. The AP recap put it at 55 feet. 3-1.

Eriksson Ek made it 4-1 at 13:00. He won a race to a Matt Boldy rebound, partially fanned, and watched it pop over Daccord and float over the line. Seattle coach Lane Lambert told NHL.com the fourth goal really hurt, especially after Daccord had played well on the kill. We have to generate a little bit more offensively.

Empty net, 499 for Hughes, McCann to IR

Coleman hit the empty net at 16:24. 5-1. He told NHL.com Michael McCarron played real well and Bobby Brink had jump, and they are trying to build chemistry as a line.

Quinn Hughes picked up the primary assist on Kaprizov's opener. The NHL recap said that gave him 499 career points, and he has points in 10 of Minnesota's 12 games. Kaprizov is tied with Leon Draisaitl for the NHL goals lead at 12. Catton's point streak is four games (one goal, four assists). Minnesota has won six straight against Seattle and has points in seven (6-0-1) dating to Oct. 12, 2024.

Seattle placed Jared McCann on injured reserve with a lower-body injury on Saturday. Lambert said his timeline will be "a bit."

Lambert on Minnesota: they played a solid team game. They were up, they made sure they had people back. It was tough to penetrate a little bit.

Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for Kaprizov tied for the goals lead, and for a Kraken club that had points in six of seven and still left 5-1. They move together. They are not the same number.

Track Kaprizov, Coleman, Wallstedt, and both clubs on the marketplace. Minnesota visits Vancouver on Sunday. Toronto visits Seattle on Wednesday.
