The lead

May 30, 2026 - Chicago - Edgar Quero, Colson Montgomery, and Andrew Benintendi homered, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 7-1 without injured slugger Munetaka Murakami, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.

Chicago won its fourth straight and climbed four games above .500 for the first time since Sept. 20, 2022. Anthony Kay (5-1) went 4-0 in May with a 1.67 ERA.

How the game turned

The White Sox loaded the bases in the first and scored twice on Framber Valdez's wild pitch and Quero's sacrifice fly. Wenceel Pérez homered in the third for Detroit's only run.

Quero's solo shot in the seventh made it 4-1. Montgomery and Benintendi homered in the eighth off Beau Brieske for the final 7-1 margin. Grant Taylor struck out the side in the seventh after escaping a two-on jam in the sixth.

Pitching and matchup notes

Kay allowed one run on six hits in five innings. Murakami (Grade 2 hamstring) went on the IL earlier Saturday and is expected out four to six weeks.
