Twins 9, White Sox 6: Gray Grand Slam Snaps Minnesota Skid at Target Field

The lead

June 1, 2026 - Minneapolis - Tristan Gray hit a fourth-inning grand slam, Joe Ryan struck out nine without a walk, and the Minnesota Twins ended a five-game skid with a 9-6 win over the Chicago White Sox, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.

The victory halted Chicago's five-game winning streak and kept the White Sox between Minnesota and first-place Cleveland in the AL Central.

How the game turned

Trevor Larnach singled home a run in the first. Andrew Benintendi tied it 1-1 with an RBI single in the third before Gray's 384-foot slam off David Sandlin (1-1) broke open a 1-1 game and made it 5-1.

Chicago answered in the fifth on back-to-back homers from Miguel Vargas and Benintendi to cut the deficit to 5-4. Minnesota loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth and pushed four more across on singles from Austin Martin and Victor Caratini plus sacrifice flies from Luke Keaschall and Gray.

Vargas homered again in the ninth—a two-run shot for his 15th of the season—to make it 9-6, but Travis Adams closed it out.

Pitching and matchup notes

Ryan (4-3) allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings with nine strikeouts. Sandlin was charged with eight runs on eight hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Vargas finished 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs—16 hitting FP in AthX Engine scoring despite the loss.

Bats that changed the board

Gray's second grand slam of 2026 tied for the major league lead. Josh Bell went 2-for-4 with a double. Larnach was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Martin scored from third on a wild play when Vargas tracked a foul down the line and the Twins' outfielder broke for home.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

AthX Engine graded Minnesota at 15 team FP with Ryan at 9 pitching FP. Vargas' 16 hitting FP led all hitters on the card—even in defeat, power stacks register in daily scoring. That split from team wins is why traders still watch dynamic pricing separately.

What comes next

The division rivals continue Tuesday at Target Field, per AP.
