Tigers 8, Rays 0: Flaherty Wins First Since September in Team Shutout

The lead

June 2, 2026 - St. Petersburg - Gleyber Torres led off with a homer, Wenceel Pérez and Riley Greene also went deep, and the Detroit Tigers routed the Tampa Bay Rays 8-0, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Detroit.

Jack Flaherty (1-7) struck out six in five-plus innings for his first win since September 2025. Enmanuel De Jesus pitched four perfect innings for the save to complete the shutout.

How the game turned

Torres homered on the first pitch of the game. Spencer Torkelson doubled to start the second and Pérez followed with a 404-foot shot to left for a 4-0 lead. The Tigers added two in the sixth and Greene's solo homer in the seventh made it 8-0.

Matt Vierling tripled, doubled, and drove in two runs. Detroit ended an eight-series losing streak and won back-to-back games for the first time since early May.

Pitching and matchup notes

Flaherty allowed five hits and two walks after losing five straight starts. He was 0-9 in 14 outings since his Sept. 10, 2025 win at Yankee Stadium. Steven Matz (4-3) took the loss.

De Jesus struck out four and recorded 12 outs without allowing a baserunner after replacing Flaherty.
