October 25, 2026 - Dallas - Peter DeBoer walked back into American Airlines Center in an Islanders jacket. Three seasons here ended in the conference final and a firing in June 2025, the Associated Press recap said. By the third period his old club had the rush chances he did not want to give, and Jason Robertson had the two-goal lead that ended it.
The Dallas Stars beat the New York Islanders 6-3. Dallas is 7-3-1, five in a row, the third game of a six-game homestand. The Islanders are 5-4-2. A five-game point streak (3-0-2) is over, the NHL recap said. Shots were 38-20 Dallas. Attendance was 18,532, per ESPN. Justin Hryckowian, Dylan Hryckowian, Matthew Seminoff, Nils Lundkvist, Lian Bichsel, Kyle Palmieri, Anthony Duclair, and Ryan Pulock are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.
Robertson scored twice. Wyatt Johnston and Tyler Seguin each had a goal and an assist. Roope Hintz had two assists. Mikko Rantanen scored. Jake Oettinger stopped 17 of 20. The NHL box is 17 saves. The AP recap listed 16. Matthew Schaefer, Palmieri, and Brayden Schenn scored. Bo Horvat had two assists. Ilya Sorokin stopped 32 of 38.
4-on-4, then they keep trading
Seguin opened it at 11:31 of the first, finishing a 2-on-1 with Jamie Benn. Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan told NHL.com the plan was not to force it when New York had numbers back, then to take the rushes when it did not. It turned into a rush game anyway.
Schaefer tied it at 13:43 during 4-on-4. Left side, over Oettinger's right shoulder, under the bar. The NHL recap said the 19-year-old passed Bobby Orr for the second-most goals by a teenage defenseman (25 in 93 games).
Robertson scored 49 seconds later, still 4-on-4. He knocked down Schenn's pass behind the net, walked in front, and beat Sorokin's glove. 2-1. Robertson, on NHL.com: he mentioned they were one pass away from putting it on the tape. They executed some 2-on-1s. Goals went in. That is a shot of confidence.
Palmieri tied it at 4:01 of the second. Pulock's point shot kicked off the end boards. Backhand, recovering Oettinger. Justin Hryckowian made it 3-2 on the power play at 10:52, Thomas Harley's point shot off the boards, backhand above the goal line. Dylan Hryckowian and Seminoff made their NHL debuts on that fourth line. Dylan started with his brother and finished plus-1 in 10:03. Seminoff had two shots in 8:53.
Schenn tied it 3-3 at 17:45. Duclair from behind the net, snap shot past Oettinger's blocker.
Johnston, the breakaway, then Rantanen
Johnston scored from the slot at 4:10 of the third, Lundkvist and Joel Kiviranta. 4-3. The AP recap said it was his second straight game with a goal after he went without one in his first seven, a year after a career-high 45.
Robertson's breakaway at 9:45 came off Seguin's stretch pass. 5-3. Rantanen finished it at 13:02, a drop from Bichsel. 6-3. The NHL recap called it his 322nd goal, past Olli Jokinen for third among Finland-born players. The Stars have 20 straight penalty kills through five games, three of them Sunday, the AP recap said.
Gulutzan told NHL.com they were the better team even through two, except for a 10-minute stretch in the second. The third, they executed. DeBoer: some self-inflicted stuff, probably the most rush chances they have given up all year in one game. Schenn: they are a good team, and when you give them transition they come at full speed.
AthX Engine on a 6-3 that outshot them 38-20
AthX Engine (our projection and scoring system) scored Robertson at 10.80: two goals, three shots, two blocks. Johnston is 8.20. Seguin is 7.70. Harley is 6.30. Horvat is 7.20. Oettinger's 17-save win is 6.20. Dallas's club line is 22.20. The Islanders' regulation loss is 0.60.
Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for Robertson after a four-game multipoint streak, and for a DeBoer return that turned into rush chances. They move together. They are not the same number.
Track Robertson, Johnston, Sorokin, and both clubs on the marketplace. New Jersey visits Dallas on Tuesday. The Islanders are in Nashville that night.
