Rockies 12, Royals 6: Hunter Goodman Homers Twice, Drives in Five

Goodman owned Coors. Colorado passed last year's win total.

August 1, 2026 – Denver – Kansas City led 4-0 after three half-innings of noise. Jac Caglianone and Salvador Perez went back-to-back. Coors Field looked like another night that would bury the home club.

Then Hunter Goodman took over.

He hit a three-run homer in a six-run third, added another solo shot in the seventh, finished with four hits and five RBIs, and pushed the Colorado Rockies past last season's win total with a 12-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Win No. 44 arrived with 51 games still on the schedule.

A six-run third flipped everything

Luinder Avila could not get out of the third. Colorado sent 11 men to the plate. Kyle Karros doubled home two. TJ Rumfield singled home another. Goodman cleared the left-field seats at 384 feet for his franchise-record catcher homer total and a lead Kansas City never reclaimed.

Ryan Feltner settled after the early damage and worked six innings for the win. Willi Castro added a solo homer in the fifth. Rumfield kept finding hits. The Rockies stacked 16 hits and turned a trade-deadline weekend into a box-score night for Goodman, a possible trade target with 33 homers and a team-leading 65 RBIs.

Lane Thomas was pulled mid-fourth and later traded to Atlanta. That is how deadline nights look in last place: the visitor loses a player mid-game and the home club keeps swinging.

Kansas City had the early homers and nothing else

Caglianone's two-run shot was his team-leading 18th. Perez followed. John Rave also went deep. The Royals put up six runs and 12 hits and still left Coors down six. That is the cost of a six-run inning against a catcher who refuses to stop.

Seth Lugo draws Kyle Freeland on Sunday. Kansas City will try to forget a night that started 4-0 and ended 12-6. Colorado will try to keep a rare winning stretch alive with a catcher who just rewrote his own franchise line.

Goodman did not need the trade rumors to make noise. He needed two swings and a Coors night that would not stop.
