The lead
May 29, 2026 - Arlington - MacKenzie Gore pitched 6⅓ shutout innings, Brandon Nimmo, Nicky Lopez, and Joc Pederson homered, and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 9-1 at Globe Life Field, per the Associated Press recap on ABC News.
Texas scored four two-out runs in the first with help from two Royals throwing errors and never looked back. Gore improved to 4-4 and is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in five home starts this season.
How the game turned
The Rangers jumped on Stephen Kolek (3-1) for six runs—four earned—in five innings, including Nimmo's two-run homer in the fifth. Lopez, a former Royal acquired Tuesday, hit his first Rangers homer in the sixth—a two-run shot for his first hit after an 0-for-8 start in Texas. Pederson's solo blast in the eighth just inside the right-field foul pole made it 9-0.
Ezequiel Duran had two hits at short with Corey Seager on the injured list. Vinnie Pasquantino ended Kansas City's string of 23 consecutive scoreless innings with an RBI single in the ninth off Gavin Collyer.
Pitching and matchup notes
Gore allowed four hits and one walk with three strikeouts on 99 pitches—63 strikes. The Royals are 2-13 against left-handed starters, per AP.
AthX Engine graded Texas at 20 team FP—top on the 15-game Friday card—with Gore at 20.33 pitching FP.
Bats that changed the board
Nimmo extended his on-base streak to 12 games. The Rangers' three homers came from three different former NL East bats added to a reshaped lineup. Kansas City came in off Kolek's second career shutout and left Arlington with another lopsided loss.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
20 team FP with a near-shutout and three homers is the AthX Engine template for a home rout—pitching and power sharing the ceiling without a single 20 FP hitter. Daily scoring remains separate from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
The series continues Saturday with Seth Lugo against Kumar Rocker, per AP probables.
