A 2-2 pitch to center, and Citizens Bank Park emptied onto the field
August 21, 2026 - Philadelphia - Alec Bohm waited for Luis Gastelum's sweeper, squared it up at 103 mph, and watched it sail past Jose Fermín in center.
Automatic runner Bryce Harper scored. Edmundo Sosa, in for Luis Arraez, scored too. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 in 10 innings and stretched their winning streak to seven.
Bohm finished with three hits and three RBI. Arraez and Brandon Marsh also had three hits. Gastelum (3-3) had retired the side in the ninth. The 10th did not go the same way.
Homers, doubles, and a lead that would not stick
St. Louis jumped first. Joshua Báez homered in the first with Jordan Walker aboard, 2-0. Phillies fans still boo Walker here for the Home Run Derby chapter. He answered later with a two-run shot of his own that briefly put the Cardinals ahead 4-3 in the sixth.
Philadelphia clawed back in pieces. Marsh and J.T. Realmuto doubled in runs in the second. Bohm singled Arraez home in the third for a 3-2 lead. After Walker's sixth-inning homer, Realmuto doubled Bohm home to tie it, and Justin Crawford's sacrifice fly scored Marsh for a 5-4 edge.
Bryan Torres singled home Alec Burleson in the eighth to make it 5-5. Fermín singled home the automatic runner in the top of the 10th for a 6-5 Cardinals lead. That set up Bohm.
Dobbins left early. Luzardo survived the long balls.
Hunter Dobbins exited after one pitch in the fifth with right forearm tightness. Earlier in the day, St. Louis had placed Andre Pallante on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation. The Cardinals' starter situation is already thin. Friday made it thinner.
Philadelphia kept answering with traffic. Marsh and Realmuto kept finding gaps. Bohm kept finding the barrel. When Gastelum finally put a 2-2 sweeper in a hittable spot in the 10th, Bohm did not miss it. Harper and Sosa scored. The streak hit seven. Citizens Bank Park emptied onto the grass the way it does when the walk-off is a triple instead of a cheap single.
Jesús Luzardo allowed six hits across his outing, including the two St. Louis homers. He was not sharp enough to own the night alone. He was sharp enough to keep Philadelphia within reach for a bullpen that eventually handed Bohm the last swing. Alex McFarlane (2-1) got the win in relief after the 10th-inning mess on both sides.
AthX Engine scored a one-run survival act
AthX Engine put Philadelphia at 11 team fantasy points, tied with several clubs on a crowded second tier. Bohm scored 9 hitting fantasy points. Walker scored 9 in the loss. Fantasy points measure the night. Price is a separate market question.
What's next
Andrew Painter starts Saturday for Philadelphia. St. Louis had not named a starter after the Pallante and Dobbins news. Seven in a row buys confidence. Extra-inning triples buy highlights. Neither replaces the next starter announcement.
