Ty France hit a grand slam and a solo shot. Jackson Merrill went deep twice. Fernando Tatis Jr. added another. And the San Diego Padres beat the Kansas City Royals 19-2, per the Associated Press.
Nineteen hits. Eleven runs across the eighth and ninth alone. Kauffman had nowhere to hide.
Early crooked numbers
Kansas City scratched a first-inning run. San Diego answered with four in the second and never looked back. Noah Cameron (5-8) was chased before the middle innings settled. France's slam in the eighth turned a blowout into a rout. Merrill's two-run shot in the ninth and France's second homer made it cruel.
Jac Caglianone's homer was the Royals' loudest moment. It did not change the AthX Engine team board.
