Oilers 4, Wild 3 (OT): Bouchard on His Birthday

October 20, 2026 - Edmonton - Minnesota had too many men. Overtime was already past three minutes. Connor McDavid found Evan Bouchard at the top of the left circle, and Bouchard went high short side on Jesper Wallstedt. It was Bouchard's 27th birthday. Rogers Place had a 4-3 win it nearly gave back.

The Edmonton Oilers beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime. Edmonton is 7-1-1, seven of eight. Minnesota is 6-2-2 after two in a row and four of five. Shots were 32-30 Edmonton. Devon Levi is not seeded on AthX player pages, so that name stays unlinked.

Leon Draisaitl scored twice on the power play. Mathieu Joseph scored. McDavid had three assists and extended a season-opening point streak to nine games. The NHL recap put him at 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in that streak, the fastest player to 20 assists in a single season in NHL history. Levi stopped 27 of 30. Joel Eriksson Ek, Kirill Kaprizov, and Ryan Hartman scored. Matt Boldy had two assists. Wallstedt stopped 28 of 32.

A 5-on-3 that flipped 1-0 into 2-1

Eriksson Ek opened it at 3:32 of the first. Kaprizov found him from behind the net. He kicked a rebound back to his stick and went around Levi's other pad. 1-0.

At 17:15, a review of Eriksson Ek in a crowded crease confirmed the puck had not crossed, the NHL recap said.

With three seconds left in the period, Draisaitl tied it on a 5-on-3. McDavid no-looked a cross-ice pass to the right dot. Low one-timer, glove side. 1-1. Draisaitl told NHL.com it was nice to go in tied, and that his line needed to pick it up.

Still on the power play to start the second, Draisaitl scored again at 1:03, McDavid from behind the net, far side, blocker. 2-1.

Joseph made it 3-1 at 6:01, a rebound of Alex Formenton from the slot just after a power play ended.

Wallstedt told NHL.com you cannot feed a power play like this too many chances, and that it felt self-inflicted. Minnesota went 2-for-5 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play, that recap said.

Two in the third, then too many men

Kaprizov cut it to 3-2 at 10:30 of the third, Boldy on the rush, high glove. It was his 11th goal, matching the most by an active player through his first 10 games of a season, joining McDavid (2022-23), David Pastrnak (2019-20), and Nikita Kucherov (2017-18), the NHL recap said. His point streak is seven games (eight goals, six assists).

Hartman tied it at 13:07, Bobby Brink from behind the net, slot, glove. 3-3. Hartman told NHL.com they battled back down two on the road and had to take some good out of that.

Levi told NHL.com he was trying to stay on the next puck, not the scoreboard. He is 5-1-0 since the July 1 trade from Buffalo, the NHL recap said. Quinn Hughes played 31:18.

McDavid's three-assist night was the 66th of his career, past Ron Francis for sixth most in NHL history, the NHL recap said.

Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for McDavid still adding assists in week three, and for a Wild group that tied 3-3 and then put too many men on the ice. They are not the same number.

Track Draisaitl, McDavid, Kaprizov, and both clubs on the marketplace. Carolina visits Edmonton on Thursday. Minnesota visits Calgary that night.
