Mets Name Freddy Peralta Opening Day Starter
The New York Mets announced February 27, 2026, that Freddy Peralta will start Opening Day against the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 26. Peralta, acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in late January, beat out Nolan McLean, Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, and Kodai Senga for the assignment. The 29-year-old two-time All-Star had a standout 2025 (2.70 ERA, 17–6) and finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting. He gives the Mets a clear front-of-rotation anchor as they open the season at home.
