Mets 10, White Sox 5: Luis Robert Jr. Homers Twice Against His Former Club

Two trips back to the seats at the old park

August 22, 2026 - Chicago - Luis Robert Jr. took Rate Field deep twice in his second game back since the January trade, and the New York Mets beat the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox 10-5.

Bo Bichette, Carson Benge, and Luis Torrens also homered. New York finished with 16 hits. The Mets are 12-5 in their last 17. Nights like this explain the run better than any press release.

Benge opens it, Robert keeps stacking

Benge singled home a run in the first. Bichette's go-ahead solo shot in the third put New York in front for good. Robert then launched his first homer of the night over the center-field wall for a 4-1 lead. That is the clip that travels: a center fielder who used to wear the other uniform, finding the biggest part of the yard.

Benge added a solo shot in the fifth. Eric Wagaman and Marcus Semien drove in runs with singles. Robert's second homer, a 417-foot shot into the left-field seats, pushed the lead to 8-3. Torrens capped the scoring with a two-run blast. In his last 29 plate appearances, Torrens has six home runs. The Mets did not need small ball. They needed the fence, and they kept finding it.

Christian Scott worked the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Austin Warren (2-3) threw 1 2/3, struck out three, and allowed one hit to pick up the win. Luis Castillo (4-10) lasted 2 2/3 for Chicago and was charged with four runs on eight hits. That is how a Central leader loses a home game that never felt like a pitcher's duel.

Braden Montgomery and Tristan Peters each hit solo homers for the White Sox. Andrew Benintendi drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Drew Romo scored after a walk. Sam Antonacci added an RBI single. Chicago's five runs were real. They were never enough against a Mets lineup that kept answering.
