Mammoth 4, Oilers 2: Keller Hands Edmonton Its First Regulation Loss

October 15, 2026 - Edmonton - Edmonton had not lost in regulation. Five wins in a row. Then Barrett Hayton stuffed a rebound on the power play, Clayton Keller went short side off a through-the-legs pass, and Rogers Place spent the rest of the night chasing a Mammoth team that would not give up the middle of the ice.

The Utah Mammoth beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2. Utah is 6-2-0, three in a row. Edmonton is 5-1-1. The NHL recap called it Edmonton's first regulation loss and the end of a six-game point streak. Shots were 24-24. Attendance was 16,176. Devon Levi, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Kailer Yamamoto, Owen Michaels, and Mathieu Joseph are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked. Andrew Peeke is seeded. The NHL recap said Mukhamadullin's shot bounced in off him.

Keller scored twice. Logan Cooley had a goal and an assist. Nick Schmaltz had two assists. Hayton scored. Karel Vejmelka stopped 22 of 24. Leon Draisaitl scored. Mukhamadullin scored. Levi stopped 20 of 23.

Two power-play goals, then Cooley answers in 23 seconds

Hayton made it 1-0 at 10:38 of the first, cleaning up Yamamoto from in tight, John Marino the other assist. The AP recap said Utah matched New Jersey's offer sheet for him in the offseason. His point streak is five games (one goal, five assists), the NHL recap said.

Keller scored on the power play at 11:57 of the second. Cooley went through his legs in the slot. Keller snapped it short side, glove. Schmaltz the other assist. 2-0.

Draisaitl cut it to 2-1 at 13:54, a give-and-go with Connor McDavid that he slid through Vejmelka's legs. Evan Bouchard the other assist. McDavid's season-opening point streak is seven games (four goals, 14 assists), a league-leading 18 points, the AP recap said. Twenty-three seconds later Cooley lifted Vincent Trocheck's backhand pass past Levi's glove, Dylan Guenther the other helper. 3-1. Cooley told NHL.com it almost felt like summer, a great pass, and if they play committed they can beat anyone.

Mukhamadullin's first as an Oiler, then the empty net

Mukhamadullin made it 3-2 at 1:40 of the third. Wrist shot from the point. The NHL recap said it bounced in off Peeke. First goal with Edmonton after a July 1 trade from San Jose.

Keller closed it at 19:32 into the empty net from Schmaltz and Lawson Crouse. The NHL landing lists the empty-net modifier. 4-2.

Andre Tourigny told NHL.com he was proud of how they defended, structured and physical, every inch. Mike Babcock said they worked, he played the big boys too much, and the depth showed. The AP recap said Edmonton was missing five starting forwards and a defenseman. McDavid told NHL.com it was tight-checking, it came down to special teams, and they expect to win every night no matter who is in the lineup.

Edmonton had been 5-0-1 against the Mammoth (31-16) and 3-0-0 at home (17-5), the AP recap said. That streak is over. They play again Saturday in Utah.
