Opening Week 2026 is not one single "Opening Day" button. Major League Baseball spreads first pitches across Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, then lines up every team on Saturday. If you are planning your week (or keeping a second screen on AthX), start with official MLB schedule and broadcast reporting, then layer in your local channel and streaming rules.
Opening Night: Wednesday, March 25
The Giants host the Yankees at Oracle Park as part of MLB Opening Night. First pitch is 8:05 p.m. ET (MLB.com). This is the first live regular-season MLB game on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada. MLB also publishes a Netflix pregame show at 7 p.m. ET the same evening.
Beyond Opening Night, MLB states that Netflix will stream two other notable MLB events in 2026: the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams Game (see the same MLB article for dates and locations). If you are bookmarking the season, that is the league's own roadmap for big Netflix windows, not just March.
Opening Day: Thursday, March 26
Twenty-two teams play their first game on Thursday in an 11-game slate (schedule explainer). MLB's coverage highlights national windows. For example, the Dodgers hosting the Diamondbacks is listed as an 8:30 p.m. ET showcase on NBC and Peacock. Other Thursday games include early afternoon starts in the Midwest and late West Coast games. Always check MLB.com or ESPN the morning of for rain or time tweaks.
Friday, March 27: second wave
Six franchises open on Friday: the Athletics, Blue Jays, Braves, Marlins, Rockies, and Royals (league overview). Example first games from MLB's team-by-team list: Athletics at Blue Jays (7:07 p.m. ET), Royals at Braves (7:15 p.m. ET), Rockies at Marlins (7:10 p.m. ET). Times are listed in Eastern in the league's article; adjust for your zone.
Saturday, March 28: all 30 teams
MLB's schedule explainer notes that Saturday, March 28 is the first day every club is on the schedule. That is the natural weekend for a full-league watch plan if you want maximum simultaneous games.
Regional networks, MLB.TV, and blackout basics
Most games that are not listed as national broadcasts still air on regional sports networks or their streaming equivalents. MLB.TV (where available) helps with out-of-market coverage, but blackout rules still apply. If you are traveling, verify zip code and device rules before first pitch.
Planning tips that save mistakes
Netflix Opening Night: quick setup notes
MLB points fans to Netflix's Opening Night hub for reminders and show details (Netflix Tudum / MLB). If you have not watched live sports on Netflix before, log in early, confirm your subscription includes live content in your region, and test audio and caption settings. Streaming delays can differ from cable; that matters if you are syncing with radio or a second screen.
