Giants 4, Padres 1: Susac's Bat and Ray's Arm Quiet Petco

Susac made Petco feel small twice

July 30, 2026, Petco Park, San Diego: Daniel Susac's two-run homer in the second put San Francisco ahead for good. Three innings later, he lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Rafael Devers and made it 4-1.

The Giants did not need a parade of hits. They needed Susac to finish the innings JP Sears could not escape.

The San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 4-1. Robbie Ray earned the win. Sears took the loss. Erik Miller closed it.

Ray gave San Diego one run and six strikeouts

Ray worked six innings on 86 pitches. He allowed four hits, one walk, and one earned run. He struck out six.

San Diego's only run came in the second. Ty France reached. Xander Bogaerts singled him home. That was the full Padres offense against the Giants starter.

After that, Ray kept Petco quiet. Fernando Tatis Jr. had a hit and nothing else. Jackson Merrill reached once. Luis Rengifo had two hits and never scored. Ray left with a 4-1 lead and handed the ball to a bullpen that did not give it back.

Caleb Kilian, Dylan Smith, and Miller combined for three scoreless innings. Miller allowed a hit in the ninth and still finished the game for the save.

Sears never settled. San Francisco kept scoring early

Sears lasted 3 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits, one walk, and three earned runs. He struck out two on 67 pitches.

The first inning already hurt. Heliot Ramos reached. Devers lifted a sacrifice fly to right, and Ramos scored. San Francisco led 1-0 before Sears recorded three outs.

The second made it worse. Willy Adames reached. Susac then drove a fly ball to left for his third homer of the season. Adames scored. Susac followed him. The Giants led 3-0, and San Diego's night became a chase.

Wandy Peralta allowed Devers to score on Susac's fifth-inning sacrifice fly. Randy Vásquez then threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings and kept the deficit at three. By then the damage was already in the book.

Devers set the table. Susac cleared it

Devers went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Susac finished 1-for-3 with a homer, a sacrifice fly, and three RBIs. Ramos scored the first run. Adames scored the second. Bryce Eldridge had two hits and did not need an RBI to keep innings alive.

San Francisco finished with 11 hits. The Padres finished with six. Bogaerts drove in the only San Diego run. Rengifo's two hits led the home batting order and never turned into a rally.

That is the difference between contact and sequence. San Diego put runners on. San Francisco scored them.

AthX Engine liked Ray's start and Susac's bat

AthX Engine, AthX's projection and scoring system, gave Ray 21 pitching fantasy points (FP). Susac scored eight hitting FP. The Giants finished with 10 team FP, second on the July 30 slate behind only Los Angeles.

Daily fantasy points measure the night's on-field results. Dynamic pricing also responds to market activity and other inputs. A 21-FP start can matter without producing the same number as a share-price change.

San Francisco steals one in San Diego

The Giants entered the night searching for consistency on the road. Ray and Susac supplied it for nine innings. San Diego got one run in the second and spent the rest of the evening trying to climb out of a hole Sears dug early.

Miller's save sealed a clean road win. Ray improved his line. Susac left with three RBIs and the loudest swings of the night.
