October 5, 2026 - New Orleans - Three plays. Eighty yards. Bijan Robinson took it 59 yards on the third snap, and the building that had come to mark 20 years since the Saints came home after Katrina went quiet for a rush.
The Atlanta Falcons beat the New Orleans Saints 45-24 on Monday Night Football and never trailed. Atlanta is 2-2, tied with Carolina atop the NFC South. New Orleans is 1-3. Robinson finished 19 carries for 145 yards and two scores. Brian Robinson Jr. ran 14 times for 62 and three more. The Falcons rushed for five touchdowns in one night.
14-0 before the Saints touched a clean series
Atlanta's first drive was 3 plays, 80 yards, 1:26. Folk's extra point made it 7-0 at 13:34 of the first. The Saints' answer died. Then C.J. Henderson ripped the ball from Kendre Miller. The Falcons' site says the fumble stood after a review. Atlanta took over at the New Orleans 22. Five plays later Robinson walked in from 4. 14-0.
New Orleans finally scored on the next snap sequence: 3 plays, 54 yards, Alvin Kamara from 3. 14-7, 14:57 of the second. Atlanta did not panic. Ten plays, 65 yards, Brian Robinson from 4. 21-7. Nick Folk added 29 after 10 more plays and 75 yards. 24-7 at the break.
Michael Penix Jr. did not need volume. He went 15 of 20 for 223 yards and one touchdown. Drake London caught five for 96. Kyle Pitts had three for 47. Jahan Dotson, who does not have an AthX player page seeded in prior recaps, caught the 31-yarder that made it 38-17. Tua Tagovailoa is a Falcon this season. Penix started this one, same as Green Bay.
The second half was still a run game
Daniel Carlson hit from 27 after 13 plays to make it 24-10. Atlanta marched 74 yards in nine plays. Brian Robinson from 8. 31-10. The Saints cut it to 31-17 on Kamara's 5-yard run. Penix then found Dotson. Three plays later Brian Robinson scored from 11. 45-17. Tyler Shough hit Devaughn Vele from 3 with 1:13 left. 45-24. It was consolation.
Shough finished 30 of 48 for 286 yards and that score, no interceptions, two sacks. Chris Olave caught eight for 116. Juwan Johnson had six for 59. Kamara ran 7 times for 23 and two scores and caught five for 35. The Saints lost the turnover battle 1-0, per the club wrap, and were flagged eight times for 49 yards. ESPN's game page lists Atlanta with 420 yards, New Orleans with 320, and both clubs with eight penalties.
Harold Perkins Jr. came home to Louisiana and shared a sack of Shough. Samson Ebukam, active after a hamstring, had a sack of his own. Henderson led the tackle sheet: 9 solo, a forced fumble, a recovery. The Saints' Tyree Wilson had the other sack.
ESPN Research, via the Falcons-Saints story, said Atlanta is the first NFL team to win consecutive road primetime games by 20-plus points. Bijan had 100 rushing yards by halftime. He was the first player with at least 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a single quarter on Monday Night Football since DeAngelo Williams in 2008. Brian Robinson's three rushing scores were a career first. He is the first Falcons back with three in a game since Devonta Freeman in 2016.
The Saints lost Travis Etienne and Kaden Elliss to inactives. Atlanta listed a clean active roster. Possession finished 30:45 to 29:15. Red zone: Atlanta 4 of 5, New Orleans 3 of 4. First downs: 24-22. The difference was the five rushing scores and the one takeaway. New Orleans set the night up as a memory. Atlanta treated it as a run chart.
Baltimore visits Atlanta on Oct. 11. Minnesota visits New Orleans the same afternoon. The NFC South is a two-way tie at 2-2, and the Saints are looking up at both.
