Eagles 24, Titans 20: Cooper With Nine Seconds Left

September 20, 2026 - Nashville - The turf at Nissan Stadium hit 157 degrees. Nick Sirianni needed IV fluids. Jalen Hurts still had 1:56 and no timeouts, down three. He drove 65 yards anyway.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Tennessee Titans 24-20. Philadelphia is 2-0. Tennessee is 0-2. Darius Cooper caught the 3-yard winner with 9 seconds left, the first touchdown of his career. DeVonta Smith had 10 catches for 117 and a 22-yard score. Four of those catches came on the last drive.

A 15-play open, then Hooker in the end zone

Philadelphia started with 15 plays. Amani Hooker picked Hurts in the end zone, intended for Smith. Cam Ward punched in from a yard on fourth-and-goal. 7-0 Titans. The Eagles had the ball. Tennessee had the lead.

Smith slipped behind the safety for 22 in the second quarter, NBC Sports wrote. Tank Bigsby ran for a touchdown. 14-7. Saquon Barkley had already left with a stinger in his left arm on the opening play. He returned to start the third and finished with 4 carries for 9 yards, ESPN said, his fourth career game under 10 rushing yards. Dallas Goedert hurt a knee in the second quarter and did not return.

Joey Slye made 37 as the half expired. 14-10. Philadelphia had held the ball for nearly 22 minutes and still needed the last two minutes of the game.

Elliott from 58, Ward from a yard, Harris, then 65 yards

Jake Elliott made 58 in the third. 17-10. Ward scored from a yard again, his second rushing touchdown of the afternoon, the Titans said. 17-17. It was his first career game with two rushing scores. He was 13 of 20 for 183. He ran four times for 7 yards and those two 1-yard plunges.

Marcus Harris intercepted Hurts. Slye made 33 with 1:56 left. 20-17. That is when Sirianni told ESPN he had one thought: play to win.

Hurts went 6 of 8 for 61 on the last drive, the Eagles' takeaway piece said. Smith had the 19-yard sideline catch to the 3 with 14 seconds left, the Inquirer wrote. Cooper went up and kept both feet in. 24-20. Ward got Tennessee to midfield. His last throw hit the turf. He told ESPN it was not a moral victory. It was a loss.

Dontayvion Wicks caught five for 74. Cooper had two for 26 and the score. Elic Ayomanor had two for 69, including a 41-yarder, Tennessee wrote. Ward also hit Spears for 27 and Calvin Ridley for 25. Four completions of 25-plus yards, a 94.4 rating, two rushing scores, and still 0-2. Tony Pollard ran 14 times for 64. Tyjae Spears added 7 for 41 and two catches for 29. The Titans outrushed Philadelphia 122-89 and still lost. FOX had Philadelphia with 36:25 of possession, 341 yards, and two turnovers. Tennessee had 291 yards and none. The turnovers became 10 points. The last 65 yards became seven.

Heat, two picks, and a 2-0 start

Air temperature reached 98. It felt like 106, ESPN wrote. The Titans squirted water on cleats. Jordan Mailata called it a deceiving heat. Hurts said he is not one to harp on the elements. He still threw two interceptions that became 10 Tennessee points.

Jeffery Simmons, Jacob Martin, and John Franklin-Myers each sacked Hurts once. Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith sacked Ward. Philadelphia finished 15-4 in September since 2021, ESPN said. Sirianni is 2-0 for the fourth time, most by a coach in franchise history.

Robert Saleh's Titans opened with back-to-back home games for the first time since 2010 and lost both. Next is the Giants on the road. Philadelphia visited Chicago on Monday night, Sept. 28. Barkley's arm and Goedert's knee were the next questions before that trip. NFL.com said the Eagles were 2-0 for the fourth time in five years and gave the players Monday off. Hurts still has to clean up the two picks.

Smith called the last drive fun. He also said it should not have been that close. That is the honest read of 24-20 on a field that cooked both sidelines. Bigsby ran 13 times for 33 and the other Philadelphia touchdown. He was the running game once Barkley was a spectator. Cooper was the last target. Nine seconds was enough.
