Dodgers 2, Giants 0: Two Homers in the Second, Skubal for Seven

Two swings in the second. Then Skubal did not need a third.

September 25, 2026 - San Francisco - Teoscar Hernández homered to left, his 16th. Andy Pages homered to left, his 22nd. 2-0 in the second, back to back, and that was every run. Tarik Skubal threw seven scoreless innings: three hits, no walks, 10 strikeouts, 75 pitches, 60 strikes. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 2-0 at Oracle Park.

Clear. 63 degrees. Wind 11 mph out to center. First pitch 7:15 p.m. Attendance 40,770. The game lasted 1 hour, 53 minutes. Los Angeles had seven hits. San Francisco had three. The Giants made one error. Skubal faced two batters over the minimum. He still did not finish it.

Dave Roberts pulled him after 75 pitches with a shutout intact. Roki Sasaki threw a scoreless eighth, two strikeouts, a hold. Tanner Scott threw a scoreless ninth, two strikeouts, his 24th save. The MLB recap said Skubal could have chased a Maddux, a complete-game shutout on fewer than 100 pitches. The Dodgers had already planned Sasaki's inning. They have five days before the NL Division Series on October 3 at Dodger Stadium. They used Friday to put the bullpen in its October seats.

"That was the best we've seen," Roberts said, per MLB.com. "He was on a mission tonight. You could see it. Everything was working. He just went after those guys and did a fantastic job."

Marte's two homers, then four zeroes from the Giants' bullpen

Yunior Marte (the loss, 0-2) threw five innings: six hits, two earned, one walk, four strikeouts, two homers, 69 pitches. Both homers came in the second. Tristan Beck, Sam Hentges, Joel Kuhnel, and Dylan Smith each threw a scoreless inning after him. San Francisco's bullpen did not allow a run. San Francisco's starter allowed two in a hurry, and Skubal did not allow any.

Will Smith went 3-for-4. Pages went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a run, and an RBI. Hernández went 1-for-4 with the homer. Enrique Hernández had a hit. Mookie Betts walked. That was the Los Angeles offense: two balls over the left-field wall and a catcher who would not make an out. It was enough because Skubal struck out 10.

Scott Bandura, Bo Davidson, and Victor Bericoto each singled for San Francisco. That was the hit column. Two strikeouts each for Bandura and Davidson. The Giants are 65-95. They put three balls in play for hits and watched 14 of the other outs come on swings and misses from Skubal, Sasaki, and Scott. The 2-0 was a West rivalry score that did not need a rally. It needed two swings and a left-hander who went after people.

October roles on a night with nothing left to clinch

The Dodgers are 98-62. The No. 2 seed is locked. Roberts has said they will not treat the last games as exhibitions. He also did not leave Skubal in for the eighth on 75 pitches. Sasaki needed the work for a postseason bullpen role. Scott needed the ninth. Had the game been a week earlier, the MLB recap said, Skubal might have stayed in. Friday he shook hands in the dugout and watched the other two finish his shutout.
