April 22, 2026 - Phoenix - The Arizona Diamondbacks treated the first three innings like a showcase. Ildemaro Vargas homered twice off Anthony Kay, drove in five runs, and Nolan Arenado added a two-run homer in the sixth as Arizona beat the Chicago White Sox 11-7.

Chicago did not go quietly. Colson Montgomery homered. Miguel Vargas and Munetaka Murakami also left the yard late, trimming a double-digit deficit into something less comfortable for the home crowd, per the ESPN play log. Eduardo Rodríguez still earned the win with five innings and four earned runs while the offense stacked 16 hits.

The second and third innings decided the mood

Kay could not survive Vargas. A three-run shot in the second and a solo blast in the third turned a 2-0 White Sox lead into a 6-3 Arizona edge before the game was half settled. Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo kept pressure on with extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning, including a Perdomo triple in the seventh that plated another run.

Chicago’s lineup showed pride, not control

The White Sox scored in six different innings and drew traffic on Rodríguez, but they finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. That kind of night usually ends in a loss no matter how loud the middle of the order sounds in the seventh.
